Kenny’s Cheese Farm

When traveling to Kentucky to visit Mammoth Cave, we passed up the opportunity to visit all the bourbon and whiskey distilleries, and instead we found an adorable cheese farm about an hour away from Mammoth Cave National Park. We figured it would be more family-friendly, and without a doubt, it was one of the favorite stops on our trip.

Immediately after pulling up and finding our perfect spot in a back field behind the farm house (we were the only ones there during our two-night stay), the kids were immediately outside playing with the dogs in the field, looking for cows, and finding the owners’ chickens wandering around.

We were greeted with kindness when we stopped in the store, both from the lovely woman working there, but from a local couple who shared history and stories of the family and those in the area. They also recommended an unbelievable dairy farm and ice cream shop in the next town, which was well-worth the visit. After tasting some cheese and receiving a small tour, we ventured over to see the cows and the production area where they milk the cows without human interference.

Our boys promptly put on their Kenny Cheese Farm shirts and were determined to pet the cows and find some baby calves to awe over.

It was a great location that was close enough to Mammoth Cave, but didn’t take us too far off our path to our next destination. Surrounded by mostly farms and large properties, there’s not a lot else to do in the area, but when you travel with everything you need, it was a relaxing spot that was exactly what we needed.
